Brandon Ballard sent the Pioneers to their first ever regional title game. Ballard would hit three goals this past Saturday in the regional semi-final against the Johnson Royals.Â

In the first half Ballard would give the Pioneers an early lead over the Royals, but the Royals would tie the game at 1-1 going into the half.

Right after the half Ballard would pick up his second goal coming this time by a penalty kick as he drew a foul in the box.Â

The Royals weren't finished they would pick up two goals to gain the 3-2 lead over the Pioneers.Â

Gavin Hawkins scores on a breakaway goal that would tie the game up with just over 20 minutes to gol.Â

The Pioneers and Royals would trade attacks in the time remaining until Ballard would draw a foul in the final minute of regulation. Ballard would line up the free kick just outside of the box, striking it off his right foot beating the goalie to give the Pioneers the lead.Â

The Royals however would have a chance to tie as they would attack deep into the Pioneer zone but would come up short and send the Pioneers to the regional championship game. The Pioneers would come up short being defeated by the Boyce Bulldogs 6-1.Â

The Pioneers season came to an end but for
George Brown in year one as the head coach he takes the Pioneers to the regional championship.Â

Brown had this to say, "We came together and peaked at the right time." Adding in "Ballard's ability to score and the multi-dimensional attacking of the team helped propel us to the regional championship."Â
Â
However, Ballard's performance would earn him yet another accolade earning him player of the week honors for his hat trick, which is number three this season.Â

Ballard had this to say about his performance "I felt immediate joy and relief knowing that we were going to the final after that." Adding in "I'm happy that I could be part of the team that brought collegiate soccer to Harrodsburg and I'm excited for the road ahead for this program."Â
