Lady Pioneers Defeat Number 1 Crusdaers 3-2

Box Score Contributing Writer Hunter Ellis:

Lansing, MI:

A brisk Wednesday afternoon, perfect weather for a soccer match that put the Lady Pioneers against the number one team in the nation Great Lakes Christian Crusaders.

The first half saw a Crusader goal in which saw the backend of the defense break down to give them an early 1-0 lead in which they would carry into the break.

The Pioneers looked to be down mentally at the break and defeated after the hard-fought match less than 24 hours earlier. However, at half the Pioneers would rally around and come together and get ready to start second half action.

The Pioneers would score early in the half on a beautiful goal by Katie Turner to tie the game up at one. However, the Crusaders would go on to take a 2-1 lead right back just moments after the Pioneers tied it.

However, the Pioneers would get two more goals off the foot of Katie Turner none more beautiful than the flick she had over the goalie's head to take the lead in the closing minutes of the game.

Katie Turner said this about the game "I'm happy that we get to go back home with a win." Also adding in "It's nice seeing all the girls laughing and smiling and having a good time."

Katie Turner's hat trick helped provide the Pioneers with the spark they needed to win the game over number one Great Lakes Christian Crusaders. Turner would also add in "Now we know what it's like especially beating the number one team in the country. We know what we need to do next time"

This is head coach Samantha Travillian's first win as the Pioneers women's coach. She has this to say about her team's performance "I asked a lot of the team during this game, and they stepped up and delivered." Adding in about Turner's hat trick "Katie had an amazing hat trick, but without the support of the rest of the team, we wouldn't have found those three goals."
